FEATURED AUTHOR: Charmaine Galloway

Charmaine was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. Writing has been her passion and a positive emotional outlet since middle school. As a teen, writing in her journal allowed her to escape the negativity of her world. Around that time she also began writing her first fiction novel. She finds joy in creating unique and awe inspiring story-lines for the characters in her stories. Ingenuity and imagination is a mainstay and compass in her work.

Charmaine has a Bachelor of Arts in Family Life Education and an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Becoming a fierce advocate and supporter of troubled young women has been a goal of hers since overcoming struggles of her own as a young woman. “I believe turning a blind eye or deaf ear to our struggling youth only promotes destruction and demise. They are human. They have a voice. You’ll be surprised by what you learn from them if you just listen.”

Charmaine, being the wearer of many proverbial ‘hats’, is an independent self-publisher and the founder of Charming Gal Publications. She is the CEO and jewelry designer for Forever Divas Fashionable Jewelry, her online jewelry boutique and a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. However, the most important ‘hat’ she wears is that of Mom to her two children. Following her dreams as a writer and authoress will leave a beautiful legacy for them and encourage them to work hard to achieve their dreams because their Mom didn't quit reaching for hers.

My World, Through My Eyes is a heartfelt collection of poems, reflections, and prayers that represent the trials and triumphs of the poet’s past.

As a teen, Charmaine found joy in writing in her journal. It was therapeutic as it allowed her to escape the negativity of her world. She wrote all of her thoughts, feelings, and emotions on paper. Having a positive outlet for this emotion and creativity encouraged her to see that there is positive light within the hardships she has endured.

Charmaine believes that her purpose is to share her testimony of Faith. In this book, she shares one of the most valuable and essential lessons she has learned on her journey. Learning to Let Go and Let God intervene in her life and heal her from her sinful past has been the most changing, validating, and peace yielding decision she has made.

Come and witness Charmaine’s poetic reflection of life which has molded her into the strong, devoted mother and Christian she is today.

Meet Tyra, Alisha, and Brittany. These young women have been good friends since high school. Like most close friends, they have shared secrets and had ups and downs. They’ve also managed to maintain and solidify healthy, trusting friendships with each other through the year. Or so it seemed. More recently, there has been a change in atmosphere amongst them. Betrayal? Dishonesty? Their friendship is about to be put to the test with the secrets they hold.

Tyra Bell is a single mother who has seen hardships and trials. She’s led a tumultuously torrid lifestyle before the birth of her son. Good decisions and sound judgment were not within her character before he was born. Since becoming a mom, Tyra made the decision to become a devout Christian. She realizes that her son deserves a family and is preparing herself and waiting on God to send her life-mate. While adjusting to her walk as a Christian, Tyra’s faith is shaken to its core when she receives a phone call. Her party past and bad decisions could cost her the most valuable things she has. Her son.

Brittany Parker is the epitome of a “kept” woman. This self-centered house wife of a successful medical doctor lives her life under the premise that life (hers at least) is too perfect to have a care in the world. But major marital problems arise when her husband becomes a workaholic. How else can he afford this woman and her lavish lifestyle? He always was big on the idea of work hard, play hard. Brittany must’ve been too busy spending his money to notice.

Alisha Wright is a dedicated mother of two. Dedicated to raising her family, she unselfishly sacrifices her own joys and desires to efficiently meet her responsibilities as a mom. Alisha’s children are not the only people who enjoy the fruit of her toil and selflessness. She would go to any measure to stay in a relationship with her son’s father and he knows it. Will his manipulation and deception lead her to abandon her priorities? Alisha needs her friends for support but insists on baring this heartache on her own.

As the lives of these friends unfold they each have opportunities to reflect. It is then that secrets and truths are revealed. Will the secrets ruin their lifelong friendships? When the time comes, these three women will be faced with difficult choices and as a result their lives will never be the same.

BLOG TOUR: Crowned by Princess Dior

Roxy has been on a paper chase ever since her mother was incarcerated. Left to fend for herself she turns to the one place that doesn’t judge her; the streets. When her life begins to spiral out of control she has to decide whether she is ready to own up to her mistakes and the people she has crossed or trade in her Gucci shoes and king-sized bed for state issued slippers and a twin sized cot.

Princess Dior, born Princess Estella Dior Washington to Queen Esther Perkins, faced many challenges in her younger life. Raised by a single mother that she viewed to be the most powerful woman in the world, Princess’s life was nothing less than boring. Growing up, Princess watched as her mother hustled to provide for her and her siblings by any means necessary. Taking great pride in her mother’s determination to raise her family, Princess embodied in her strength which molded her into an outspoken, well-dressed little girl with her eyes on the world.

Grounded by the church, and expressing hobbies for writing and speaking publicly, Princess began to showcase her talents at the mere age of thirteen and has yet to look back. Filled with the desire to help, she began to use her talents to motivate and uplift others through writing and public speaking. Since being raised in a church filled environment, Princess knew that taking on the role of being over the morning announcements and the dance ministry would be worth something more than a resume builder.

Taking her religious values very seriously, Estella believed that she was destined to do great things. As life would have it, Princess took a turn into the game of survival which lead to leading a life as a “Hustler’s Wife”. Becoming accustomed to the fabrication of a fabulous life, Princess turned to the streets to provide her with all of life’s riches. Hustling became her new lease on life until she found herself facing a 35 year prison sentence. With her hands clasp together on bended knees, she remembered her mother saying “No weapon formed against you shall prosper”. Renewing her faith in God, Estella began to reevaluate her outlook on life.

Feeling that the enemy won, Estella’s reclamation of her salvation while in wait at the women’s detention center only added more blessings for this newfound young woman. Winning the Correctional Idol Contest gave her the affirmation that she needed. Recommencing the skills that never left her hand or her heart, Estella won a spot on a CD with Malcolm Jamal Warner and on Russell Simmons Def Poetry Slam.

Enjoying her renowned love for writing, poetry, and mentorship, Estella spread all of her positive energy throughout her family and ministry on love, life, and inspiration. By creating an image to inspire others with her story and the recreation of her life, this aspiring Media Mogul wanted to share her trials and tribulations to mentor others and show them the path that God has set forth. Knowing and believing that God can and will show up in your life during your most controversial times, Estella wants all to know that being patient and humbling yourself proves that you too can make the right advancement in life.

Now living a life of substantial wealth in Christ, Estella is a free woman who’s working and building her media empire that motivates and inspires others through the works of art and entertainment. Currently taking pride in her husband, Dorian Wright and their children, she looks at life to be enriching and full of a well-rounded support system. Feeling compelled by her story, Estella feels that there is no shame in sharing her life story. She hopes that her story heals and motivates those that feel all hope is gone.

Estella Dior is a, Wife, Mother, Entrepreneur, Motivational Speaker, an Author and a Spoken Word Poet who has overcome trials and tribulations with goals to enrich and inspire everyone she meets. Her hopes are to transform each being and to convert their lives from walking by sight, but by Faith alone.

We would now like to officially introduce the world to the transformation of “Estella Dior, Media Mogul”

An Unexpected Blessing Virtual Book Tour

Tell us about An Unexpected Blessing.

My book is titled An Unexpected Blessing. My main character is a Nigerian woman living in diaspora. Feranmi has everything going for her, except in the love department. For her parents this is not acceptable especially at her age. An Unexpected Blessing explores her desperate plan to fool her parents that she is in a committed relationship in order to avoid be harassed about her unmarried state and being hooked up.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

As with everything a writer I’m sure, life presents a lot of ideas. I ’m a Nigerian living in diaspora so I was inspired by stories all around me. One of the most talked about topics for African women whether in diaspora or back home or in general is marriage. People have a certain expectation on the age at which a lady must be married. An Unexpected Blessing explores that issue.

Did you have to do quite a bit of research for this book?

Not at all. I did a little bit especially about Chicago, but the rest came naturally to me. I’m writing my next book now and the topic isn’t so familiar so I’m having to do a lot of research.

What do you hope readers will learn/discover from reading fill-in your book title?

Apart from a lesson in forgiveness, love and acceptance, the main thing I hope readers take way from my story is that things go much smother if we trust God’s plan and are willing to step outside our comfort zone. To be able to let go of always trying to be in control and let the Spirit lead.

Okay, a not-so-fun question. How important are reviews to you as a writer?

Extremely. In my opinion, word of mouth is the fastest medium of communication and as an avid reader myself, I look at what fellow readers had to say then I make my decision.

About the Author

Unoma Nwankwor is the co-owner of KevStel Group, a Christian entertainment company, specializing in movie productions, book publications and hosting events. When she is not writing or running the operations of her company, she spends her time with her husband and two kids. Born in Akron, Ohio to Nigerian parents, Unoma spent her childhood and early adulthood years in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. She now resides in Atlanta which she has called home for fifteen years.

About the Book

SHE HAD A PLAN

Personal banker, Feranmi Adewunmi has done well for herself in diaspora by any standards. But by her parent’s calculations, she should be married by now. And they had the right man for her. For Feranmi, being single wasn’t a crime and so she came up with the perfect plan to beat them at their own game. All she needed was a man.

HE WAS SCORNED WITH A PAST

CEO of Montgomery Construction, Alex Montgomery was back in Atlanta. His primary focus was rebuilding his business after an unfortunate incident in Chicago changed his life forever. A chance meeting with Feranmi turned that plan upside down. The pain she caused him in school was still fresh in his mind but so were the feelings that never died. Now she needed a favor.

A BUDDING ROMANCE THREATENED BY SECRETS

For Feranmi time was running out. Her parents would be visiting soon and she still hadn’t found the perfect Nigerian man. Alex was her only option, after all how hard could it be? What they weren’t prepared for was an attraction they couldn’t ignore. Will they lean on the Lord for guidance or insist on being in control? Will his guarded dark past confirm her fears? Or will love prevail the second time around?

An Unexpected Blessing is a novel of love, forgiveness, and being open to God’s plan in your life. The best blessings are often unexpected.

Excerpt

Pauleena entered the shower room and grabbed some scrawnylooking white girl who was drying off and tossed her out of the shower room, then slammed the door behind her. Instantly Jessica looked up and saw Pauleena standing in the shower room fully dressed. Right then and there Jessica already knew what time it was.

“Oh I see you one of them hard headed bitches.” Jessica spat. She stood talking to Pauleena as if she wasn’t butt naked. Jessica was a big girl, but she wasn’t fat nor was she skinny. Jessica rinsed the remaining soap suds off of her body, then cut the shower off, as she noticed Pauleena heading towards her. All the steam that filled the shower room and floated through the air made it hard for Jessica or Pauleena to seeclearly. “Come on bitch.” Jessica growled taking a defensive stance. Once Pauleena was within arm reach, Jessica fired off a quick jab.

Pauleena weaved the jab and caught Jessica with a stiff right hook. Jessica’s head snapped back as the strap on her shower slippers broke off. Once Pauleena saw Jessica struggling to keep her footing she went in for the kill and fired punches from all angles hitting Jessica all in herface and head. Jessica fought back as best she could, but every time she tried to gain momentum in the fight Pauleena hit her with another punch.

Jessica kicked off her other shower shoe, backed up and took a second to regroup. She eyed Pauleena closely, the fresh scratches that covered her face were beginning to burn and sting, so she quickly moved on to plan B. Jessica charged Pauleena and was rewarded with two stiff punches to the face. Jessica took the punches well, reached out and grabbed a handful of Pauleena hair. “Bitch!” Jessica barked, then tossed Pauleena into the wall by her hair. Pauleena’s body sounded off loudly when it made contact with the wall. Jessica held Pauleena’s hair with one hand and fired off several punches to her face, followed by a few knee strikes.

Outside the shower room Remy as well as several other inmates stood outside the shower room’s door listening to the gruesome battle that was taking place on the other side of the door. They didn’t know what was going on, but from the sound of it they could tell that it was going down.

A native of Harlem, New York, Silk White began his writing career in 2006. He is the author of the three part Urban Fiction series Tears of a Hustler and Co-Owner of Good2Go Publishing and Good2Go Films. Silk has No Way Out and Black Barbie as a film credit under Good2Go Films and in his spare time, loves to write and act. He is currently producing a new movie and is hard at work on his next novel.

Tell me about the finale to your critical acclaim trilogy Tears of a Hustler?

This book is the finale to a trilogy that was written 2 years ago. We took our time with releasing part 2 & 3 to help build up our fan base in between releases. It’s a classic finale that all our loyal fans have been waiting for. I promised I wouldn’t let them down and according to the reviews we have received so far, everyone is happy. Check amazon.

What made you decide to start your own publishing company rather than signing with an establish publisher?

Well after Tears of a Hustler PT 1 was released I had several offers on the table, but from a business standpoint it just made more sense to release my titles under my own company. In the short term it’s a lot of work because you have to build your fan base one fan at a time, because you don’t have any distribution. But once you’ve established your brand like we have, you make 100% of the profit. At the rate we’re going we should be one of the biggest independent african american owned publishing companies out there in a few years. We’ve reached over 200,000 households in two years with no help. Right now we have good2go publishing and good2go films our movie Production Company and Third Lane Marketing.

What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Writing was a natural process for me, growing up in the environment that I grew up in and my life experiences help enhanced my already vivid imagination. My ability to translate my imagination thru writing was a god gifted talent that I discovered when I was going thru unforeseen circumstances.

What’s the best thing about being an author?

I really appreciate all the love and support that I get from the fans. They are the ones that keep me motivated. It’s amazing to see all the support that I get from all parts of the country, outside the country also. Shout out to all my UK Fans. I never thought that one day my work would have reached over 70,000 households.

What are you working on now?

Well I just wrapped up my 5th book which is slated to be released Nov 25 2011. Its called The Teflon Queen. So be on the look out for that. You can pre-order an autograph copy now from www.good2gopublishing.com I also just finished shooting my 2nd movie under good2go films its called Black Barbie. The first movie is called No Way Out you can get that at www.good2gofilms.com

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

This piece of advice is not just for writers but any aspiring entrepreneurs out there. Especially, the youth coming from underprivileged communities. Sometimes in life we get a bad hand to play with. You have to make the best out of the hand you’re given. The best piece of advice I can give is, spend all your time and energy focusing on accomplishing your goals whatever it may be, you’re going to get results. Surround yourself with good people you trust, Sleep 5hrs work 19hrs. I just want to say Thanks to everyone out there for the love and support. Keep supporting me and Good2go Publishing

FEATURED AUTHOR: KS Oliver

I am a mother of two boys, William Sha’Kwan & Trystyn K’Shaun. I was born in New York and raised in Georgia. I have an Associate’s Degree in General Studies, and a certificate in Medical Billing & Coding. I have these skills but writing has always been my guilty pleasure. On May 2010, following the birth of my youngest child, I was diagnosed with Lupus. Subsequently, I was diagnosed with Skin Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Fibrosis, Hypotension, Hypothyroids & Severe Depression. My psychiatrists suggested writing a diary, but I learned quickly that poetry came a lot easier to me. With my everyday life being so challenging, I needed an easier outlet to keep me standing strong.

The title Still Standing is literal. Often people go through things that break them. How would you handle being diagnosed with more than 5 diseases before the age of 30? KS Oliver takes you into her world of pain and Lupus. She has had more x-rays, CT scans, surgeries and blood work performed than one can count and is Still Standing.

Why did you choose to write this book?

The more I wrote and the more people read my writing; the more I heard that I should share it. The title Still Standing is literal. I have been cut, poked and jabbed multiple times. I have stayed in the hospital for several days on end. I am on a first name basis with the emergency room staff. I have had more x-rays, CT scans, surgeries and blood work performed than I can count. I am still standing. What would you like readers to take away from your book? When people read my book I just want them to take something with them that they didn’t come with. I have had to learn faith and embrace my strength.

What did you learn about yourself in terms of your strong points and weak points while writing this book?

While writing this book I learned that it is ok to not be so private when it can help someone else. My weaknesses are sometimes what people need to see to build their strength.

What advice would you offer to someone interested in writing a non fiction book?

I would tell anyone interested in writing a book to do it. Be true to yourself and your craft

Do you plan to write any more books?

I have a book releasing on September 25 titled Affectionately 360

Who was the first author you ever met?

The first author I ever met face to face was Minnie Dix aka Leigh Mcknight

What are you reading right now?

I am now reading Niya by Fabiola Joseph and Erotic Bliss

How can readers get in contact with you? (mail, email, website)

I am on facebook www.facebook.com/authoressksoliver, IG @authoressks, twitter @authoressks, website: www.authoressksoliver.com, and email authoressksoliver@gmail.com

Anything you'd like to say to the readers of SORMAG?

I just want you to know I don’t write for sympathy but for understanding. Though being chronically ill isn’t easy it doesn’t mean you can’t accomplish every goal you have set. It has made me stronger.

The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box
What your father didn’t tell you and your mother didn’t know

Chapter 1
For the Love of Vincent

Sunday-morning service stirred Debra Hampton’s heart. The poignant message convinced her to resolve a matter that had her torn for almost a year. She had been undecided about whether to marry her live-in boyfriend, Vincent. He didn’t share her religious beliefs and refused to go with her to church, but she knew that he was the best man for her.

He laughed at her silly antics, talked with her about her ambitions and encouraged her to greatness. He made her the focal point of his life and involved her in every decision no matter how minute. But it was his touch that held her hostage, kept her toying with God’s love by giving herself to a man who was not her husband. With her head bowed to hide the free-flowing tears, she exited the church without speaking to anyone. She sat in her Mercedes S550, took a moment to freshen her makeup, expelled a sigh of relief. She looked to Heaven through the panorama sunroof, smiled, closed her eyes, gave thanks. The decision to accept Vincent’s proposal resonated; filled her with peace as she trusted the Lord with her soul mate.

The thirty-minute drive from the inner-city church to her suburban home gave her ample time to reflect upon the life they would build together: three children, business partnership and unlimited mind-blowing sex. The rush of blood to her southern bell—the name her mother called her vagina when she was a child—gave her pause. Fortunately, she was stopped at a red light. She clicked through the Sirius Satellite stations and then opted to enjoy tunes Vincent had downloaded to her iPod a few nights prior.

As she turned into Creekwood Estates—a lavish community north of Dayton—she admired the mansion-sized homes set hundreds of feet from the street. Manicured lawns featured rows of exotic trees, shrubbery and blooming flowers. Cobblestone driveways boasted luxury cars and backyards had customized gym sets or in-ground pools.

Her stucco and brick palatial home was small in comparison to those of her neighbors, but it was big enough for her family-to-be. She loved the side-entry, three-car garage because it camouflaged the unpacked moving boxes from passersby. She parked in the usual spot—closest to the mudroom door—and then she smiled wide. “He’s home.” Debra grabbed her purse and Bible and then jaunted into the house. She placed her belongings on the granite countertop, careful not to make noise. Since the television wasn’t locked on a sporting event, Vincent had to be resting in the master suite. A 3,500-square-foot home and he preferred the family room and bedroom.

She slipped off her stilettos, tiptoed up the stairs. Her heart beat faster with each step. She wiped her palms together to dry the sweaty moisture, pressed her ear to the door. His subtle snores seeped through. She giggled and then covered her mouth to halt the escape of more laughter. She opened the door, peeked in, swung it wide. “Vincent! What the devil?”

“Debra, what are you doing here?” After a quick dismount, he rummaged the floor for his Fruit of the Looms. “When’d you get home?” “Who is this woman and why is she in my bed?” She ran to the side of the bed, towered over her betrayer. Breath stalled in her throat, eyes widened. “Catherine!” Catherine—the first person to welcome Debra to the neighborhood—reached for her clothes, scurried to dress.

Debra lunged at her, snatched her by the ponytail, drew back her fist. Just as she connected with Catherine’s right jaw, Vincent grabbed Debra around the waist, pulled her away. She flailed her arms, kicked at his shins, head-butted him in the mouth. When he released her, she pursued Catherine who was halfway down the stairs, underwear in tow.
