Scholarship

This year I decided to offer a scholarship to a lucky conference attendee in honor of my late friend Katherine Jones who I met at the Slam Jam in Florida. That meeting started a friendship that will always be in my heart.

My hope is the scholarship winner will learn a lot at the conference of their choice and network with those in attendance and maybe meet a kindred spirit and start a new friendship.

Click on the comments and tell me why you think you deserve this honor for a chance to be our first scholarship winner.

I think Katherine touched a lot of people's lives. I could always count on her to keep it real. She was not only a colleague of mine but I was blessed to be able to call her a friend. It would be an honor to receive a scholarship in her name.

I personally didn't know Katherine Jones but after learning of her death I was able to read online who she was as a writer, wife, and a mother. A woman who multi-tasked life as she wrote. Katherine Jones life is, and will always be an inspiration to be committed to simply write without excuses. I'm here today because I want to learn the craft of writing, storytelling, and inside/out of the publishing industry. Having a mentor would be great but this scholarship will open the doors of opportunity for a novice writer such as myself.

I did not know of this great woman until her passing. Sometimes life is like that. That's why it is so important to live your best life; to do your best; to treat others in the best manner possible; to love unconditionally; to give cheerfully. Everything that I learned about Katherine, though it came after her death, still infused me and reminded me that while I am on Planet Earth, that I should be all that God has called me to be. To those who knew her as a friend like Shelia Goss and LaShaunda did, then your lives are probably more blessed for having known her. To the family she leaves behind, know that she will forever be with you and the love you have for and she has for you, will never die. What an honor it would be to have a scholarship that is in the name of one who had such a awesome impact on the world!

I did not know her personally but we emailed each other several times. I think what you are doing in her name is great. I'm sure that the person who wins this will be happy and will learn alot about the literary world.

What a wonderful idea LaShaunda. I'm sure she'd be touched by the gesture. She took her writing very seriously.

The scripture Mat 10:10 “I have come to give you life, an abundant life,” has become my motto. Armed with this verse, I have overcome panic attacks. Being bound by fear is not abundant living, and I crave this abundant life He has promised.
As a writer I’m not sure what I’m more afraid of, success or failure. However, I am compelled to move forward and honor God with the gift he has given me. I am learning how to be brave even though my legs are shaking. Can you imagine how David felt when he faced Goliath? Was he really that brave as he boasted to his enemies, or was he trembling and putting up a front as he trusted God to see him through? If David can face Goliath, then I can face my fears and trust the plans the Lord has for me, whether it be success or rejection letters.
I am grateful for my crit group and yet we are all new writers and have much to learn. Attending conferences is one of the best ways to improve as a writer. I love meeting and talking to people. However, like many others, finances keep me from attending.
Thank you for honoring Katherine with a scholarship that encourages her passions. If I am given this scholarship, it would be such an honor and blessing of abundant living.
Thank you all so much for this conference. I have enjoyed learning from you.

What a wonderful way to honor a friend. I am a reader, reviewer and aspiring writer. Living in Jacksonville does not give me many options to get out and network in the literary world. I would love to be able to receive the scholrship for a chance to network, learn new things in the literary world as I move closer to my dream of turning my journals and abstract writing into a published book.

I didn't know Katherine but did read some of her work prior to her death. I believe this is something that Katherine would approve of and would love for someone to use and give back to the reading community. If I was chosen for this great honor, it would enhance my love for reading and passion of supporting authors with my gift of free reviews and publicity.

Hi LaShaunda,

I am humbled by your desire to honor Katherine in such a way. Though I did not know her, I hope one day that my life will continue to touch other's as hers is now.

I would like to go to the Christian Writer's League conference this winter because they teach both fiction and non-fiction. I love to write both. I've only been able to attend fiction conferences and really need to expand my education.

I was thrilled to attend this conference online! I learned so much and am extremely grateful for the hearts that poured out their wisdom and experience. It showed me how much farther I still have to go and how MUCH more I still have to learn.

With 3 kids in college and trying to start a new business from scratch, I just don't have the funds to continue my education as I'd like. Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you to all!
Angie
