About the Book

Jonah Morgan has been married to his wife, Faith, for more than ten years but their union has begun to unravel—and it’s essentially his doing. Jonah hasn’t made any time for his family—their daughter, Elise, and his step son, Eric—in what seems like too long. Faith has had enough. She wants a divorce, but what she doesn’t realize is that Jonah’s been spiraling into a crippling depression, fueled by rampant alcoholism, which has created a multitude of other problems for him, including an allegation that could ruin his career. Can Faith look past their problems, and, through “faith” and forgiveness, help bring Jonah back on the righteous path?

Boy, that’s sounds good. That couldn’t have been better if I wrote it myself. ( LOL ) Secrets and Lies debuted on December 1st of 2009 and has been making headlines all over the world wide web. It’s been nominated for an Emma Award, and it made several best of 2009 reading list. I’m pleased because for one, I hope it’s selling, but more importantly, I pray the messages in the story will reach far and wide and touch the hearts of each reader.

Speaking of hearts, the original title of the novel was Issues of the Heart. So fitting was it for a novel that dealt with the themes of faith and forgiveness. One of the main characters, Dr. Jonah Morgan is a pediatric cardiologist and the word heart is used in the novel 148 times. But it’s not just in the context of Jonah’s work that heart is referenced, “his” heart is at the core of what’s eating at him and got him in spiritual cardiac arrest!

In the novel Secrets and Lies, you learn in chapter one that Dr. Jonah Morgan deals with his pain and stress with alcohol. Alcohol is one of many unhealthy ways that people attempt to deal with their problems. Can you think of some others? What are the short and long term effects of coping with pain and stress the wrong way?
