Good Morning! Blog Tours are one of the best ways to reach new readers! Ask me anything, I'm here to tell you what I have experienced. I'm so ready to answer your questions and to share, share, share!

Time management is one of the key elements to any blog tour. The author needs to really think about how much time will they have to interact with the followers of each blog.

Preparation before the blog tour is going to be key in setting the stage for success. Deciding on what material to share and how much time you have to offer are going starting points.

Remember The Milk apps are the best way to manage your tasks for a blog tour: http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/

Managing tasks is generally not a fun way to spend your time. Remember The Milk was created so you no longer have to write your to-do lists on sticky notes, whiteboards, random scraps of paper, or the back of your hand.

Over four million awesome people now use the apps to stay organized!

Good morning! I've not done a Blog Tour, so how would an author like me who is unfamiliar with how it works get started? Are we invited to do the tour or do we contact a Blog Tour Host to set things up. Thank you.

You can arrange your own blog tour, if you have the time to contact influencers. However, it would probably be more effective to hire a blog tour provider. There several great articles on Google that will have lead you.

So happy that you're taking the time to share your knowledge Ms. Ella. I've spoken to many who have hesitated to commit to a blog tour because they feel they can't identify who is actually attending. Please explain the purpose of a blog tour.

Do you find it best to offer giveaways when doing blog tours?

When is the best time to schedule a blog tour...the week before the book is released, the week of or the week after its released?

Thanks Ella for sharing the apps. That's been one of my goals is to get better organized because "time" has been an issue.

A blog tour is primarily to introduce readers to your work. Your mission is to get people interested in YOU and your book. You are trying to create a team of people who will go forth and talk about your book. The more people reviewing the book and sharing your material the better. You will go beyond the scope of your close network.

Authors can share articles to show their expertise; videos and audio for those who are more visually inclined to act; experts to peek the interest of readers and oh so much more.

Blog tours will work best if they take place before the book actually comes out. Maybe a week before the book releases, in order to get those pre-orders and to create a buzz. This is important if you are traditionally published author as far as bestseller's lists go.

If you have a book that might be a crossover book, blog tours are ideal to share your work with people who would not ordinarily purchase your work. The one joy of a blog tour, they stay online for months or years! A Google search might bring in a reader long after your tour is over.

The people that will be exposed to your offerings depend on the theme of the blog or the followers of the host. Offering incentives and contests often time bring in more people. Make sure they give you something too! Use some kind of database to secure their info for other book releases.

What are some tips to having a successful blog tour?

What should you not do on a blog tour?

Ella D. Curry said...

One of the negative things I see happen alot on blog tours: authors never go back and respond to the readers! Once you are given a list of the stops, go to the links and open up the conversation or reply to the people that responded. If there are no replies, you say something first or ask a question.

The tips for a successful tour could be 10 pages long...LOL. I'm going to share a link that's very informative and it will save my poor little fingers: http://www.helenginger.com/blogging_advice.htm

The first link that I share is for those people who want to become blog tour hosts. The article gives great advice on going a little further. Please note that business owners can go on blog tours too!

Here is a link for authors that want to go on a blog tour and how to make it better: http://joannegphillips.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/ten-tips-for-a-successful-blog-tour/

This is all great information, thank you!

One tip I have is to make sure you have content to share. Don't just send info on where to purchase the book. Try to have a written interview with questions and answers, a book trailer is also nice. If you have an audio or video of your reading from your book that's helpful as well. Finally an article or two and links on how to contact you and purchase the book will round out the package. ~Cheryl Lacey Donovan
