At 77, she penned her first book, MAGIC HANDS: Sistahs in Medicine. The medical romance series debut episodes on Amazon Kindle Vella enjoyed a meteoric rise to the Top 250 Faved readers list. She edits books for award-winning authors, loving the first peek at her literary besties’ best selling gems.

A native Michigander, Paulette’s a wife and mother to two sons. When not editing as Five Star Proofing, she’s honing her passion for creating content for her self editing tips and marketing her books. Enjoying the writing adventure, her goal is to entice new readers to return for her new episodes on the Kindle Vella platform. Readers can keep up with her journey on Facebook at Author Paulette Nunlee and Five Star Proofing. She has a website in the works at paulettenunlee.com.

Why did you choose to write books?

I’ve loved words since winning a dictionary in a spelling bee in grade school. Years later, while proofreading others’ books, I was encountering characters and ideas in my head that forced me to start writing some of my thoughts. Having a number of women physicians in the family prompted my interest further to write a contemporary women’s series.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

My debut book, MAGIC HANDS: Sistahs in Medicine, reached 100 on the TOP FAVES 250 list of most read Kindle Vella books. It has remained on the list one year later.

Why should readers read your current book?

My targeted audience enjoys contemporary women’s fiction in the romance genre. Stories about the personal lives of women professionals in the medical field is different since their access to physician specialities is limited. My books include the obstacles and rewards in pursuit of their dreams.

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

I didn’t allow my age, in my late 70s to keep me from publishing my debut medical romance series.

What advice would you offer an author whose book is releasing next week?

Work on creating an infrastructure for your literary branding. Try to collect as many reviews as possible to be posted during the release date.  Schedule social media postings for at least a month on platforms where you’ve built a presence. Also research groups for posting that read your genre for after you’ve run out of family and friends purchasing their copy.

Women In Literature - Meet Karen Kay

Two Worlds. Two Hearts. A Forbidden

Passion.

Amelia McIntosh was only fourteen when she fell in love with the young and handsome Gray Falcon of the Blackfoot Tribe. He’d helped her through a difficult time, and, for him in turn, she’d opened up a vital part of the medicine man's world. Five years later, Amelia is still in love with the mesmerizing Gray Falcon, but her refusal to marry anyone but him has created a dangerous problem for her and her family.

When Amelia—the pesky little girl from Gray Falcon's past—returns to the Northwest, he can't help but notice she has blossomed into a beautiful, desirable woman -- one who sets his heart aflame. Yet, he must resist her feminine charms because, though she is a friend, what

she asks of him is against all Gray Falcon stands for as a medicine man.

United only in love, will love, alone, be enough to stand strong against a world threatening to pull them apart?

Warning:  A sensuous romance that might cause a gal to head west and capture the heart of her own true love.

Multi-published Author of American Indian Historical Romances, KAREN KAY, aka GEN BAILEY, has been praised by reviewers and fans alike for bringing insights into the everyday life of the American Indian culture of the past.  As Reviewer, Suzanne Tucker, once wrote, “Ms. Kay never fails to capture the pride, the passion and the spirit of the American Indian…"

KAREN KAY's American Indian heritage includes her great grandmother who was Choctaw Indian, and she is adopted Blackfeet.  Ms. Kay is honored to be able to write about the American Indian culture.

“With the power of romance, I hope to bring about an awareness of the American Indian’s concept of honor, and what it meant to them to live as free men and free women.  There are some things that should never be forgotten.”

Why did you choose to write books?

Answer:  When I was young, I played piano and clarinet.  And when I grew older and was not very rich and wished to have some aesthetics in my life, I couldn't afford to buy a piano, but I could afford pen and paper.  But, there's more: I chose to write American Indian romance books because there are simply some things that are important about our American heritage and those things should never be forgotten.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

Answer:  It was this last December when the new release of my book, SHE CAPTURES MY HEART hit #1 on the new release category for American Historical Romance.

Why should a reader read your current book?

Well, this new book is filled with much about the medicine man of old, his strict moral code and much about his life as a medicine man, his powers and his relationship with the Creator.

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

I'm hoping my books will interest people to try to find out a little bit more about our legacy from a people who brought the value of freedom to the Europeans who were fleeing tyranny.

What advice would you offer an author whose book is releasing next week?

Why did you choose to write books?

I had an uncanny experience when I was a 10-year-old. I refer to it as my "burning bush" experience. At the end of reading a Gwendolyn Brooks' poetry book, this strange feeling (felt like I was in a spiritual cocoon) came over me. For a few seconds, I sat on the edge of my sister and my bed pondering the feeling. Then, it surfaced from deep within me and gasped and said, "Oh! I'm a writer!" Have been writing since.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

Each time I put the work, thought, inspiration and emotion into writing and finishing a new novel!

Why should a reader read your current book?

Rosetta Blay is a bold, courageous, creative girl who's also mischievous, making her loads of fun, not to mention somewhat of magnetic mystery! Kids learn about the power of teams, confidence, conflict resolution and more while reading (and LOVING!) the Rosetta Blay book series! Rosetta's New Action Adventure is the second book in the series. The first book is titled Rosetta The Talent  Show Queen. Don't set your kids up to miss this dynamic 5th-grader! Read free excerpts from both books at - chistell.com

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

Aiming to write at least one masterpiece. Still working on that!

Raised in a household filled with books, it was only natural that Ellen Parker grew into an avid reader. She turned to writing as a second career and enjoys spinning the type of story which appeals to multiple generations. She encourages her readers to share her work with mother or daughter – or both.

Ellen currently lives in St. Louis. When not guiding characters to “happily ever after” she’s apt to be reading, walking in the neighborhood, or tending her tiny garden. You can find her on the web at www.ellen-parker-writes.com and www.facebook.com/ellenparkerwrites.

Why did you choose to write books?

When I visit a library or bookstore, I’m drawn to full-length novels, biographies, and historical works rather than short-stories, poetry, or anthologies. So when I started to write – I wanted my work to fit what I read. I struggled at first to make my stories long enough for publication as a novel, but as the years progress, the length comes a little more natural.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

It’s difficult to pick just one. However, when I’m selling books at a craft show, it’s a real thrill for a person to say “I’ve never met an author before” and want to shake my hand.

Why should a reader read your current book?

New Dreams is a clean and wholesome romance set in 1850’s Illinois. My book is suitable for all ages and will have a happy ending. In addition, some of the incidents from a time of great change in the mid-nineteenth century echo in the present.

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

I have learned a great deal from other writers. I hope that I am able to pass down some knowledge to the writers that follow – either by reviews, critiques, or conversations over coffee.

What advice would you offer an author whose book is releasing next week?

I would encourage them to post about their book on every social media platform where they have an account. Then I would ask them to find several friends willing to read the book and post a review in the first weeks after release.

Women In Literature - Meet Erin Hodges

Death, in itself, is a mystery.

But when one experiences multiple deaths consecutively, that mystery now becomes more convoluted. In this twisted, roller coaster ride of emotions, when Geraldine Brentwood’s fiancé, and even her ex-lovers, start dropping like flies, she unexpectedly becomes the prime suspect. Even though each of them broke a piece of her heart that seemingly could never be replaced, she is yet in the process of clearing her name as the one who has done the unthinkable.

In this literary masterpiece, The Cassanova Killer, author Erin Hodges takes readers on a murder mystery journey of love and life lessons that seem like too much for one person to bear. As Geraldine learns to stop looking for love in all the wrong places, she finds herself befriending someone who may not exactly have her best interest at heart, to say the least. Filled with heartbreak, heartache, betrayal and backstabbing, readers will be left on the edges of their seats as they indulge in this page turner from beginning to end.

When it’s all said and done, will Geraldine yield to the world’s definition of love, or will she awaken to her authentic greatness within and love herself as she is unapologetically and unafraid?

While many see writing as a favorite pastime or hobby, she strives to build a lucrative full-time career with the power of her pen. For Erin Hodges, whether she is reading the hottest new release, or writing her next bestseller, she holds a special place in her heart for all things literary. After years of encouragement and motivation from her mother to write and enter writing contests, Erin once only dreamed of becoming a published author—but now, that dream has manifested. Motivated by the freedom of time, coupled with the artistic free flow of creativity, she looks forward to the day when she can focus solely on pen and prose, making a lucrative living through her writing.

Having transitioned out of her early career in teaching to technical writing, Erin was introduced to tech writing first through a graphic design course where she learned how to code on a basic level. Once she landed a job performing data entry for manuals using computer code at a defense company, the door opened for her to move into technical writing. In her day job, she writes technical manuals for the defense industry, which plays a key role in keeping soldiers safe in the field and in battle. But that doesn’t stop her creative flow.

Holding a Master of Arts in Communication from Eastern Michigan University, her love for the literary arts speaks loud and clear whether she’s working a 9-to-5 or creating a fictional masterpiece.

Why did you choose to write books?

I choose to write books because I’ve always had a love for reading and writing. One of my dream jobs as a child was to be an author.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

My most proud moment is holding the physical copy of my book, realizing that I stepped out on faith and published it.

Why should a reader read your current book?

A reader should read my current book because it is an interesting whodunit that will keep readers guessing. Unlike other whodunits it is a quick read and even the busiest person can make time to read it.

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

I think my writing legacy would be that I am an author who wrote interesting and engaging novels with characters that resonate with readers despite it being characters in a murder mystery or suspense novel.

What advice would you offer an author whose book is releasing next week?

My advice would be to make sure you have a marketing plan written out. And that writing the book is the easy part. Most importantly, have fun through the process and don’t stress yourself out.

Women In Literature - Meet Rose Jackson-Beavers

Journey With Me to Jesus

Each day is considered a gift, so treat yourself to the best gift of all, a stronger, more capable, and spiritual self. Journey to Jesus With Me is a daily devotional written by Rose Jackson-Beavers to 1) encourage you to look inwardly, 2) think about the things that might have been imbedded in your subconscious, and 3) motivate you to make changes in your present.

For 30 days, this book guides the readers with a prominent daily scripture that will allow each person to address past thoughts with current actions. You will not go on this journey alone as Rose Jackson-Beavers relives some of her moments. Through transparency and faith, Rose shares lessons that her mother instilled in her and how she incorporated those lessons into her life. She also shares a corresponding scripture to help those who desire encouragement and help to think of those things.

During a time of such harshness, this book was written to build the reader up, and give you a fresh start to each day, no matter how the previous day has been.

Within 30 days, allow yourself the space and the opportunity to put your spiritual and emotional life first, and aim to fix the things that might be hindering you. As you go through each day, with Rose Jackson-Beavers, allow the scriptures, anecdotes, and thought-led questions to speak to you as you continue to pursue the trials of life. As each day passes, you get stronger, until finally you have your own stories to reference and build yourself up.

Why did you choose to write books?

I am a person who writes to release stress. As a young person, I loved to journal my feelings. I always felt better when I wrote down my concerns, fears, and problems. It was as if I could feel the pressure lifting out of my body, and I felt peace. I also loved visiting places in my dreams, so I wanted to write about travel, love, and drama. As a shy person, I found comfort in traveling with written words. I wouldn't have had the courage to travel across the country because of my inability to fly for more than five hours. Writing can be good for self-care and helps to deal with stress.

What is your most proud moment as an author?

When invited to travel to other cities through my sorority as an author for their yearly tour. I haven't done it since COVID, but I love visiting other states and meeting my sorority sisters if the flight is under 5 hours. When people say they read my work, enjoyed the story, and give me kudos, I feel a sense of pride for accomplishing my goals.

Why should a reader read your current book?

We are going through some difficult times, and sometimes we, as Christians, may feel that God has left our side. I want people to take this journey with me to Jesus and read my experiences and work on the activities, and they will see that God never left them and that He was with them the entire time. When you can relate to other people's experiences, it will open your eyes to see that God was always with you. Participating in the activities will remind you that God brought you through your challenges.

What do you think will be your writing legacy?

That I helped people become authors. I published over fifty authors and more than 100 books and worked with close to 200 authors giving advice, coaching, or presenting information to them in seminars. Also, self-care is essential to your well-being and can include writing, reading, participating in activities, and just doing something that brings you joy.

What advice would you offer an author whose book is releasing next week?

First, I congratulate the writer and let them know that it is a considerable achievement and do all they can to get the book to readers. That may cost you, but if you want readers to know you and purchase your work, you must invest in marketing. Then I will take the advice myself. Secondly, I would ask if they created a plan and worked on it for six months. If you didn't, you still need to do it because your book will never be too old for new readers of your work.
