Getting The Most Bang Out Of Your Paid Promotion

If you don’t have time to promote get help.  There’s nothing wrong with paying for promotion help, just make sure you’re getting the most bang for your money.

I’m going to offer you a few tips help you get the most bang.

1.    If you know me you know my first tip is always to start your mailing list.  You don’t want to promote without your mailing list.

You want to include your mailing list link vs your website link with your promotion.  Your #1 goal with any paid promotion is to bring those readers back over to your community.  Asking them to join your mailing list is the best way to do this.

2.    Do your research:  If you plan on paying for promotion.  Find the places that promote to your genre.  Check out their promotion packages. Find what fits in your budget.
Talk to the site owners and see what they can offer you, sometimes they can work with your budget to help you get more bang.

Don’t wait until the week your book releases.  Even if you don’t have the funds three to 6 months before, let them know what you are interested in and maybe they can pencil you in.

If you wait until your book releases, you might not be able to get in to promote your book.

3.    Make sure they cater to your genre

This is very important because sometimes authors look at the numbers or what they can offer vs the audience.

Yes they can send out tweets 20 times in a day to 50,000 readers but are their readers your audience.

It makes no sense to pay for promotion and you can’t bring the audience back to you.  No you can’t convert readers.  They know what they like.  The only time this works is in person.  You can talk to them face to face and you might get them to try you.  It doesn’t work with paid promotion.

4.    Create a promotion plan with your paid promotion.

When authors come to me before their book releases, and have a budget for their promotion.  I create a promotion plan with SORMAG promotion ads.

We do a coming soon ad – introduce the book with a cover and presale link.

If I have space, I do an interview in the magazine or on the blog.

When the book releases – we do a release today ad with the buy me link.

The next ad is usually the On the shelf now Ad.

This is where the author has a choice to stop promoting or continue.  If you are paying attention to your promotion results you know if the promotion is working for you or not.

5. If you don’t have the funds to continue, you can still use those ads to continue promoting.

If you are using SORMAG promotions.  You have links to your ads.  I recommend you put those links to the ads on rotation and continue to share them to your community.  They are already created and archived for a year.  You paid for them, continue using them.

Check to see if the other paid sites will give you the links.  If they don’t take them down, you can use them as long as the link works.  Remember you are trying to get the most bang out of your ad.  Plus you are helping the promotion site reach new people too.  You both win with the same ad.

6.    If you do an interview – podcast, magazine or blog interview.  Put that link in your promotion rotation.  This is content you don’t have to create.  It’s also a way for others to hear or see the interview if they missed it the first time around.
Most authors use their paid promotion as a one time deal.  It all depends on if its archived or not.  Some ads can be used for the year or many years to come.  Share those links with your community.

Paid promotion can work for introducing you and your book to new readers and it also can help you sale books.

BONUS TIP:  If you are a new author you want to make sure you are introducing yourself to a new audience before the book releases.  A coming soon ad gives the readers a heads up that new author is coming out.  They want to check you out first.  Maybe visit your website or read an excerpt to see if they want to try you out when your book releases.
If you wait until the book releases, you are making it hard on your book and the reader because they don’t know anything about you or your book.  Guess who they will buy instead?  The author they know and trust.  You have to build the trust.  Paid promotion can help you do that.
