Sharon Blount is the president and founder of Building
Relationships Around Books (BRAB) Online Book Club and an avid reader. However,
that was not always the case due to an early diagnosis of dyslexia. Once she
overcame this obstacle, she hasn’t looked back. Sharon enjoys graphic design,
writing, and event planning. She is an Oakland, CA native, medical assistant,
and mother to a beautiful son who has truly taught her the meaning of love. In
the future, she envisions BRAB becoming a foundation in many states improving
literacy in women, men and children.
How can readers get
in contact with you?
Hello! You can reach me by email
authorsharonblount@gmail.com or Facebook author page. Author Sharon Blount
What would you like
readers to take away from your book?
A good laugh. It’s nothing better than a book with your
favorite beverage.
What did you learn
while writing this book?
Oh boy, that you truly have to love writing and be open to
constructive criticism in order to become a better writer.
What did you hope to
accomplish with this book?
To make people laugh and realize that anything is possible.
Love wins at the end of the day.
Which
character did you have the most fun writing about?
Granny. I love writing about older characters and having them
to things that you wouldn't think about.
What do
you believe makes your stories stand out?
My book is based around
coffee, the city is called Java city. Street names, business as well. I haven't
read that in another book. Plus the comedy in the story as well.
What do
you do when your book isn’t selling?
I try to promote more any time sales fall off to bad or I'll
do a sale, contest things to peek interest to my book.
What
literary event can we find you this year?
This year at my event.
A Reading Warriors Retreat.
Who was
the first author you ever met?
E Lynn Harris
What’s
the most interesting change in your life as a result of being a published
author?
People asking about my book and being excited to meet me. I'm
still shy when it comes to talking about my book.
What has
surprised you most about being a published author?
The cost certainly surprised me, so much more than just writing a good book.
What's
the plan for the book after you finish it?
Definitely have to have a plan on promoting it and getting
read by the readers.
What
about writing do you wish non writers would understand?
That good books takes time. I do know some writers can write
fast. Each book an author will show improvement. I’ve learned so much from my first book as a
reader and author. I now have such a new-found respect for veteran authors.
Can you
give us one do and one don't for those aspiring to be an author?
Do- get a real editor, yes they cost a lot but if you get the
right one it will be well worth it. Editors are writers’ best friends.
Don't- please stop
editing your own book and publishing it.
There are so many mistakes we miss. Please get fresh eyes on your
manuscript. Readers will talk about bad editing.
What
about writing do you wish non writers would understand?
That its work, even though I enjoy writing for the most part I
love creating new characters. It's still
hard work to finish a book.
When
you're not writing, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love reading, I dont get to do that much now that I'm
writing. Most important to me spending time with my son.
Oprah
always asks, what do you know for sure?
I know God loves me. I
know with hard work anything is possible.
Any last
words for our readers?
Never give up.
