What inspired your book?
I had a strong desire to plant the
seed of entrepreneurship in young children using characters and storylines they
could easily identify with.
What would you like readers to take away from your book?
Business ideas can be based on solving everyday problems, and money can be
earned by those who can effectively and efficiently solve those problems.
What is your favorite scene from your book?
Each book has
different scenes, but I like it when the three characters--Daisy, Robert and
Karim--work together as a team.
Which character did you have the most fun writing about?
All
three characters are fun to write about.
What did you learn about yourself in terms of your strong
points and weak points while writing this book?
I wasn't sure that I could
write a children's book and I discovered that I'm pretty good at it.
What aspect of writing do you love the best, and which do you
hate the most?
Best: Coming up with original and creative ideas. Hate: There's
nothing I hate about writing.
Why did you choose this genre to write in?
I believed there
was a niche and need I could fill.
What advice would you offer to someone whose book is about to
be released?
Promoting your book is more important than writing it. If no one
knows about it, it won't sell.
What are your three favorite social media platforms and how
are you using them for promotion?
Primarily Facebook, but Instagram is second.
I'm on Twitter but only as my Facebook posts are connected to it.
What three literary events would you recommend a writer in
your genre attend?
The National Black Book Festival in Houston (Oct. 22-24,
2020), Black Authors and Readers Rock, and the National Book Club Conference in
Atlanta (late July/early August).
What’s the most interesting change in your life as a result of
being a published author?
Meeting people I didn't know before who've read my
book(s) and enjoyed them. Also, people who contact me and tell me how much one
of my books helped them address a particular challenge or problem they were
having.
Oprah always asks, what do you know for sure?
There is no such
thing as a free lunch. Any worthwhile goal requires time and attention to
achieve success.
Anything you'd like to say to the readers of SORMAG?
Purchase a Kidz Biz book for the children in
your life, be their relatives, friends, or children you'd like to bless.
Kidz Biz is a children's book series created by Houston author
and entrepreneur, Gwen Richardson. The objective of the series is to plant the
seed of entrepreneurship early and watch it grow in the next generation. The
books are designed for ages 5 to 8 and each book is only $12.00. The books make
excellent gifts for kids and can be purchased as a bundle for holiday gifting.
The three main characters in the series, Daisy, Robert, and
Karim, are known as the Kidz Biz Squad. These three neighborhood kids develop
witty business ideas to earn money for fun toys, trips, projects, and prizes.
Each book in the series covers a different business concept or aspect of
running a business. Children who read the books will learn the importance of
finances, friendship, and fortitude.
There are three Kidz Biz books currently available. Book 4
will be released in mid-January and a new installment will be released every
calendar quarter in 2020 and 2021.
