On October 8, 1921, the first Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland, Ohio which launched a movement throughout the candy industry to rank Sweetest Day with the nationally accepted Mother's Day, Father's Day, and St. Valentine's Day.

Sweetest Day is a holiday primarily celebrated in the states of Ohio, Illinois, and Michigan, and to these Midwesterners, it is more sacred than Saint Valentine’s Day itself. This romantic holiday is celebrated on the third Saturday in the month of October.
